What is Prayer or Intercession?

A form of communication with God, such as a deity, a solemn request for help, or an expression of thanks, addressed to God or in an act of worship. Revival is not a token prayer; if it doesn't move me, it won't move God.

Prayer and Obedience

  • Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
  • James 5:16 – Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
  • Jeremiah 33:3 – Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you did not know.
  • Matthew 6:6-7 – “But when you pray, go into your room, and pray to your Father who is in secret; your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. When you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do.”

There Are Many Types of Prayers

Here are a few examples:

  • Prayer of Faith – James 5:15 (prayers of faith must be followed by an action of faith)
  • Prayers of Intercession – Psalm 7; 1 Timothy 2:1
  • Prayers of Imprecation – Matthew 5:44-48
  • Prayer of Request – Philippians 1:4, 6

These are just a few; we have many forms of prayers for our needs, from salvation to decrees.

The benefits of prayer are:

Entering into God’s presence, offering His praise, aligning with His purpose and words, making petitions, seeking forgiveness and protection.

Prayers remove obstacles to victory; it’s faith that takes us into the city to obtain in prayer.
